A while back I saw a commercial on TV about Friskies Gourmet or some other type of catfood that was offering a free sample. The commercial gave a website address, so I remembered it, keyed it in the following day, and ordered Mister Mistoffelees a sample.
Fast forward several weeks later- The free sample arrived, and when I opened the package, I saw that it was tuna flavored- a moist cat food with ‘real’ tuna, and some sort of gravy looking stuff.
I thought- Great, Mister M. is going to love this- It’s something new and different, so he’ll think it’s a fantastic treat.
I proceed to tear open the top of the container, dump the not-very-tuna-looking contents into a glass bowl, and proceed to put it on the floor at Mister M’s feet (who had gathered in the kitchen at the sound of the container being opened).
I waited for him to devour the food. tick-tock tick-tock He sniffed it, looked up at me with this expression as if he were trying to say, What is this crap? Do you seriously expect me to eat it?
He sniffed it again, looked at me again, turned his catty little nose up and walked away.
I stood there amazed. My cat, the amazing Mister Mistoffelees is a food snob!!
I told Marcel, and he laughed, dismissing it that Mister M. wasn’t hungry. I reminded him that when I give Mister M. real tuna, or chicken, that he can wake from the deepest of sleeps and come running to the kitchen.
I waited an hour or so, and put the bowl down again. I called him- he came running, sniffed the bowl, gave me the same look he’d given me the hour before, and walked away.
Obviously tuna flavored isn’t the same as ‘tuna’, even when it is smothered in this gravy type substance.
Needless to say, the food went in the trash, and I’m glad that I didn’t actually spend money on that food. Thank goodness for free samples.
I noticed yesterday that Whiskas is now offering a free sample. Don’t you know, I’m going to try it again. I’m expecting the same result. If only Royal Canin would offer free samples- Mister M’s food of choice since he was a kitten.
I just had an idea- I think Mister M. may ‘guest blog’ here sometime. I miss his old journal, and I bet he does too.
