When my friends call and ask for help on finding great deals- I’m always ready to pull out my laptop and get to work. I love it that they feel they can come to me, because I really do love finding those hard to find products, or find great prices that not everyone has the time and patience to search for. I’ve become so many friends’ ‘go to’ person for that kind of information- and just earlier this week I’d found a pedalboard available at Musicians Friend for my favorite neighbor, who also happens to be a great musician. It isn’t a big thing to me, but it is to them & that is something that brings me great joy!

What do you do for others that brings you great joy?

When I have friends who are interested in purchasing something online- they tend to always call me. I think it’s because I do fairly well with searching, but also finding the best prices in a sometimes confusing search result. Like for my neighbor, I found that Guitar Center has, boss rc-30 at a great price! He was happy that he could get a good price and I was happy that I could help him in the search. It’s a win-win no matter how you slice it.

Today I received a text from one of my friends back home.   We went to school together from elementary all the way through high school   We graduated together and went our separate ways, losing contact until the beauty of Facebook brought us together again.    When I’m home I always try to see her.  She is funny and beautiful inside and out.

We don’t talk often between my visits home, but we will send each other a text via iMessage on our iPhones on occasion just to check in and say “Hi”.     Today I had one of those texts from her and I couldn’t help but laugh when I read it.

It said:  Hey girl-  Just wanted to say hi and tell you how much I love your Snaps.  (On Snapchat for those of you who don’t know what a ‘snap’ is.)   You are always off on some fun adventure.

I laughed.    When I finished working I sent her a quick message back and said hi-  Wished them a great Christmas season and told her that sometimes my adventures are not in the ‘fun’ category, like a few days ago when we were stranded on the side of the road for 4.5 hours waiting for help in an area that was totally unfamiliar to us.

I told her that I didn’t ‘snap’ that, but if I hadn’t been trying to preserve my battery life-  I probably would have, as it would have helped pass the time.

It is another example of what we put out there is only a glimpse into what is really going on in our lives-     I take everything I see online with a grain of salt- because I know for the most part it’s the highlights of someones life as opposed to the daily ins and outs.    But when we seem to think that someone else’s highlights should be compared to our own lives- it’s when we are asking for trouble.

Remember-   Comparison is the thief of joy.  I can’t remember who said that, but there is SO much truth to it-    Shine in your own light-  you are brilliant and unique just as you are.    None of us need to be like another to be worthy.

Happy Holiday Season.   May yours be merry and bright!

One of my last posts- I mentioned Snap Chat and how it seems to be all the rage at the moment. At the time- I really wasn’t ‘getting it’, but fast-forward a month and my thoughts and perspective has changed.

We are on vacation and having a BLAST, but my almost 16 year old nephew spent some time showing me all the ‘ins’ of Snap Chat and I have to say that I’m hooked. It’s a fun way to share a moment with someone and unless they screen shot it- it’s lost after either 24 hours (if you post to a story) or instantly if you share with someone directly.

.. so back to my question… how many of you use Snap Chat and how do you feel about it?

SO how many of you use Snapchat? I had an account in the beginning, and I ended up deleting it because I didn’t really care for it. Now, fast-forward to current day and see that it seems like everyone under the sun is using it. Celebrities are using it, bloggers are using it- and the list goes on. I downloaded the app again, gave it yet another try and STILL don’t get it. haha I’m not sure if I haven’t taken enough time to learn it, but it doesn’t flow for me like most tech things do.

Maybe I’ll try to learn more and see if I start loving it. It’s kind of odd to me to think about investing time into something that’s going to disappear within 24 hours.

I would love to hear what you think- especially if you use it regularly.

Snapchat- Yes, No, Maybe so?

Today my bestie and I made our reservations to see Harry Connick Jr in Mobile for June. We originally planned for it to be only the two of us, but our guys also wanted to go- well, more her guy- Marcel doesn’t care, but he likes the idea of the date night. The pre-sale started this morning, so I was online and ready to go at 10. I was able to get pretty good seats, and now all we have to do is start checking days off the calendar until then.

Granted, that will be a great celebration to have since it will be after the wedding and we’ll have all the wedding stuff behind us. In the meantime- there is so much to look forward to with the wedding and everything leading up to it.

Life is so good!

For Christmas, Marcel gave me a new Nikon DSLR. I had needed one for a while, since my ancient Nikon had a shadow on it that couldn’t seem to be removed and no one could figure out what was causing it, including the folks at Nikon. It was an older Nikon- a D50 to be exact, and it served me well. I lost my photography mojo when the shadow appeared though, as I’d take some amazing shots- only to find the shadow on the photos. Some it was obvious- some not so much, but I knew it was there. I retired the camera and went to exclusively taking photos with my iPhone or my little Panasonic Lumix (also a great little camera), but it wasn’t quite the same as the Nikon.

Since the beginning of the year- we’ve been doing some major home improvements. I’ve loved seeing things come together, but a lot of things still aren’t where they need to be, as I’m also making changes in the house. I don’t do that great with disorganization.

Tomorrow I’m taking out the Nikon to shoot together with a friend- She’s bringing her camera and we’re going to go on our first photo adventure together- It should be fun. Well, truth is I know it will be fun, because we ALWAYS have fun simply being in each others company, much less doing something we both enjoy.

I wanted to get my batteries charged and ready to go- and when I went to grab my charger- it wasn’t where it should have been. I looked in other places it ‘could’ have been, but nope- it wasn’t there either. I grabbed my old Nikon charger- but it wouldn’t work. I searched, searched and searched more- but my search wasn’t fruitful. I called Marcel, who acted like I was speaking another language when I asked him about it.

Finally, I took a pause, and thought- I’ll wait a few and gain some perspective, and maybe I’ll remember where it was. I decided to go back to the computer / work-out room, where it shouldn’t be, but I wanted to check anyway. Wouldn’t you know- there it was. Needless to say- I was VERY relieved, and now both batteries are fully charged and ready to go.

Oh, and the battery charger- it’s where it should have been all along, with the rest of the chargers.

Shopping, it’s one of those things that we ALL do at some point or another in our lives. Some of us absolutely love shopping, and some of us find it falling more in the do as a necessity kind of thing. I happen to fall in the love group when it comes to shopping, so much so that friends and family often ask me to help them find certain hard to find items, because with a keyboard and a little patience, I can pretty much find even the hardest to find item. If it’s out there somewhere- I’ll find it.

The Internet has made my love affair with shopping even stronger, and to mae my love affair even stronger was my humble discovery of coupon codes. It happened by chance quite a few years ago. I had something in my shopping cart at an online merchant, and before I ordered, I wanted to double check that I couldn’t get a better price somewhere else. A little searching here and there, and I came across another site- with the same item, but it also offered free shipping, plus a coupon code for 15% off your first purchase. That made my already great deal item, an even better deal. I was hoooked.

Since then I’ve saved literally hundreds using websites like VouchaCodes to find codes that offer additional discounts on sites that I already shop at. I’ll admit that I do a little happy dance inside when I can find something for a great price, and then make that price even better because of a discount code. Add to that the fact that I can shop at all my favorite places in the comfort of my own home, PLUS in my PJs if I want- and that’s a combination that can’t be beat, at least not in my eyes.

When I find things I love- nothing makes me happier than to share it with others- which is the reason for this particular post that is an ode to some of my favorite things. For those of you who love Bob’s Red Mill, and love Steel Cut Oats- feel free to have a peek into my shopping cart at iHerb. There you’ll find my favorite oats, plus Marcel and my favorite snacks, Blue Diamond Almond Thins and Pecan thins. If you haven’t tried them… you should. They are: to-die-for.

I’m a huge fan of one stop shopping, and if you add one stop shopping to a store that not only has FREE shipping for orders over 20.00 that’s a major plus. I also love their customer service, which is better than any I’ve seen in the last years- I order from them regularly, and new customers receive 5.00 off their first order under 40.00 and 10.00 off any order over 40. How, you ask?

When you visit iherb.com and add your own items to the shopping cart- use the code QJK747 at the check out- the shopping cart will do the rest.

Take a little time and browse the site- and I am certain you’ll find a few new favorite things of your own. Shea butter, Castile soap- the list goes on for me..

I am EXCITED!! Not only has Sons of Anarchy started again, (I’ve only watched the first episode, so no spoilers for the second, please.) next week Survivor starts, plus The Blacklist, and right behind it- Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and the new show- ‘How to Get Away With Murder’. I can not wait!

Thankfully- I can watch most everything via the app, since I don’t always get to see them come air-time, but it’s great to binge watch and catch up a few on the weekends or when I have a home alone evening.

So dish- what’s your favorite show coming this Fall?
